Foothills Surgery Center is excited to announce the newest additions to our medical staff: Akin Beckley, MD, PhD, FACS of Alpine Surgical and Joanne Halbrecht, MD of Boulder Institute for Sports Medicine.
Dr. Beckley is a board-certified general surgeon with a PhD in Biomedical Science. He has extensive training in all aspects of General Surgery and specializes in minimally-invasive approaches. Dr. Halbrecht is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with training in sports medicine. She is an expert in arthroscopic surgeries. Dr. Halbrecht also offers stem cell therapy with tendon repair. In scientific study, stem cell therapy has shown impressive results in aiding recovery for surgically repaired tendons. Foothills Surgery Center invites you and your family to join us for a patient education talk with Richard Stewart, MD, MSPH of Specialty Eye Care. The free health lecture is titled “Advanced Treatment for Cataracts”. Dr. Richard Stewart, a board-certified ophthalmologist, will discuss laser cataract surgery with modern lens implants, a procedure that can improve vision for those with cataracts and reduce the need for glasses.

This is a time for women to make their health a priority, and for men to support the women in their lives reach their health goals. Together we can all take steps to improve our health. Foothills Surgery Center invites you and your family to join us for a patient education talk with Kara Beasley, DO, of Boulder Neurosurgical and Spine Associates, and Alan Zacharias, MD, of Associated Neurologists. The free health lecture, “Controlling Involuntary ‘Tremors’,” will focus on the newest approaches in diagnosing and treating tremors due to Parkinson’s and Essential Tremor. Come hear about the new medications and therapies combating tremors, as well as deep brain stimulation (DBS), a minimally-invasive surgical procedure that can calm tremors and help with the stiffness and slowness of Parkinson’s disease.
Dr. Beasley is one of very few dually credentialed neurosurgeons and bioethicists in the world. Her areas of interest include tumor, deep brain stimulation for movement disorders, neuromodulation for refractory chronic pain, and the surgical treatment of epilepsy. She is currently able to perform Stage 2 DBS surgery in the outpatient setting at Foothills Surgery Center.

The free health lecture, “Anesthesia: What to Expect Before, During & After Surgery,” will take place on Wednesday, April 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Foothills Hospital, 474 Arapahoe Ave, Boulder, CO, Leo Hill Conference Room.
Anesthesia can be one of the most anxiety provoking aspects of surgery.
